tumor: An abnormal growth of cells.

type 1 diabetes: An inherited form of diabetes in which insulin is not produced by the body (also called insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, or IDDM).

type 2 diabetes: A form of diabetes in which insufficient insulin is produced or the cells of the body no longer respond to insulin.

Whipple procedure: A surgical procedure in which the head of the pancreas, a large section of the duodenum, a part of the bile duct and sometimes part of the stomach are removed in an effort to prevent the progression of a pancreatic cancer.
